BROMOCRIPTINE TABLETS

Bromocriptine used for treating Parkinson disease, excessive or abnormal breast milk production, certain menstrual problems caused by too much prolactin in the blood (hyperprolactinemia). It may also be used to treat certain tumors that make too much prolactin.

Dosage and Administration :

  • Dose for Parkinson's Disease :
    Initial : 1.25 mg twice daily with meals.
    Titration : Add 2.5 mg/day, with meals, to dosage regimen every 14 to 28 days.
    Maximum dosage : 100 mg/day.

Mode of action :

  • Bromocriptine is unique in that it does not have a specific receptor that mediates its action on glucose and lipid metabolism.However its effects are mediated via resetting of dopaminergic and sympathetic tone within the central nervous system.
